Following from my last post: I’ve now read Francis Gerard’s final book in his continuation of the Edgar Wallace Sanders series. The Justice of Sanders (1951) is very like the original Wallace Sanders of the River books. I would recommend it to Sanders fans, except for the last chapter, which I think was unnecessary and spoils the rest.

I discovered today that the crime and fantasy writer Francis Gérard wrote three stories about Edgar Wallace’s character Sanders of the River and his colleagues: The Return of Sanders of the River (1938), The Law of the River (1939) and The Justice of Sanders (1951) — see The Francis Gerard Bibliography. He explained at the start of the last of these that readers had asked him to update Sanders, but as Wallace had set them forty years before (i.e., before the First World War) he felt that they belonged to a lost world and couldn’t be updated. A search on Amazon, Abebooks and Ebay reveals that they now cost considerably more than the original Sanders books, as Wallace’s books are still in print and these books by Gérard are not. I’ll try reading the cheapest one and see what I think of it.
